Pin Pigsty in Steel Pipe |

Author: Bearding User I have a pin hole in a 1950's steel h2o pipe in the ceiling of the house. I've turned off the main water line. Is there a quick fix to the leak without calling a plumber? |

Writer: steve_g (CA) A repair clamp, or else piece of safety (inner tube) with a hose clamp, but you lot'll likely be talking to a plumber at some point in the non-too-distant future. You could consider the pinhole as a warning nearly the full general status of your 55 year old piping. It was nice of the piping to give y'all a little notice. Post Edited |

Author: Bearding User Thanks! That sounds like a good fix until the forenoon. Do you know of a sure fashion to actually close the pin hole without cutting the piping or replacing the piping? I've noticed a few little rust / corrosion spots down the line. |

Author: Dunbar (KY) Dorsum in the day the boilerplate homeowner would take a cocky tapping screw forth with a seat washer and screw it into the pinhole, sealing the hole till the next one showed up. |

Author: Crash Bear in heed alot of insurance won't cover your water harm if they find out you "ring aided" a minor leak earlier. It is probably best to bite the bullet & supervene upon your water lines. Yous will probably notice a large diffrence in pressure besides! |

Author: hj (AZ) Get a stainless steel "i commodities wrap around" pipage repair clench. It will be about as permanent a repair as you tin can make on that pigsty. All the other "rust spots" have leaked in the past, they just rusted over earlier you saw whatsoever leak from them. Eventually another one will rust sufficiently to start another leak. |

Writer: Anonymous User I would recomend the hose clamp and bycicle tire to buy you some fourth dimension, but galvanized pipe is not used any more for a reason. If it were my house I would get some estimates for a repiping job in the near future. If you are planing on staying in the house for a while it will go along you from dealing with this state of affairs many more than times. If y'all are planning on selling it, it will be a great selling signal, many people turn away from houses with galvanized plumbing. Either way you volition win and relieve coin in the long run. Proficient Luck, I hope everything works out. |
